In this two-hour, one-time Machine Sewing Basics class, you will learn fundamental skills and techniques essential for using a sewing machine effectively. 

Our studio sews with Brother® computerized sewing machines. You’re welcome to use one of our studio machines or you can even bring your own functioning personal machine to get better acquainted with it. 

Class Details:

  • Different parts of a sewing machine, their functions, and how to operate them safely.

  • Learning how to correctly thread the machine and wind bobbins, and insert them properly.

  • Exploring the basic stitches the machine offers.

  • Understanding how to handle different fabrics, including selecting appropriate needles, adjusting tension, and stitch length for various materials.

  • Practicing sewing straight seams, curved seams, and corners with accuracy and consistency.

  • Learning finishing methods like backstitching to secure stitches.

  • Identifying and addressing common sewing machine issues, such as thread tension problems, jammed needles, or skipped stitches.

Requirements:

No previous sewing knowledge is required to take our Machine Sewing Basics class. No fabric or thread or tools needed to attend this class. This class includes all supplies.

Students will not sew a completed project a project in this class.
