In this two-hour, two-day hemming and alterations sewing class, you'll learn a variety of essential skills centered around adjusting and modifying clothing. By the end of the course, you will have a solid understanding of the techniques required to confidently hem, alter, and repair garments.

Our studio sews with Brother® computerized sewing machines. You’re welcome to use one of our studio machines or you can even bring your own functioning personal machine to get better acquainted with it. 

Class One Details:

  • Understanding different hemming methods for various fabrics and garments, including basic machine hemming, blind hems, rolled hems, and hand-stitched hems.

  • Learning how to take accurate measurements for altering garments to fit.

  • Exploring the anatomy of different garments, seams, and finishes to identify alteration possibilities and techniques.

  • Altering clothes for better fit, including taking in or letting out seams, adjusting waistbands, resizing sleeves, and modifying lengths.

  • Techniques for repairing tears, replacing zippers, patching, and fixing minor damages to garments.

  • Understanding how different fabrics behave and how to work with delicate materials during alterations.

Class Two Details:

Practicing the skills you learned during your first class, we will working on real garments to gain hands-on experience and confidence in performing alterations effectively.

All students must bring a couple pieces of their own clothing to alter in this second class.

Requirements:

Previous sewing machine experience and knowledge is required or students must take our Machine Sewing Basics class.

Students must bring their own clothing to alter to the class.
