In this two-hour, one-time Adding Pockets class, you'll learn how to add functional side seam pockets to skirts, dresses, and simple pants. Discover how to customize your favorite garments and create the pockets you always wished they had!
Previous sewing machine experience and knowledge is required or students must take our Machine Sewing Basics class.
Our studio sews with Brother® computerized sewing machines. You’re welcome to use one of our studio machines or you can even bring your own personal machine to get better acquainted with it.
Learn how to sew a clean, professional-looking side seam pocket from start to finish. We’ll cover pocket placement, creating a pocket opening, attaching pocket bags, and finishing techniques for a polished result. You’ll leave with the skills to add pockets to future sewing projects and update garments already in your wardrobe.

Students must bring a few garments suitable for adding a side seam pocket, such as a skirt, dress, or pair of simple pants. Choose a garment with enough room in the side seam to accommodate a pocket.
Students are welcome to bring their own fabric if they’d like to create a custom pocket lining or they are welcome to use any of our scrap fabrics.
