Ready to take your sewing skills to the next level? Our Clothing Upcycling Crash Course workshop is a six-hour, two-part experience designed to transform everyday clothing into pieces that feel intentional, stylish, and uniquely yours.
This class is the natural next step after our Machine Sewing Basics | Alterations Crash Course. You’ll use your sewing skills to refresh your wardrobe while exploring creative techniques inspired by our Ruffles & Flounces, Gathering Basics, and Appliqué Basics classes.
Whether you’re updating a favorite piece from your closet or transforming an oversized thrift-store find, you’ll learn how small design details can make a big impact.
Explore creative garment transformation techniques including ruffles, gathers, elastic details, and fabric appliqué. You’ll practice creating design samples, experiment with placement, and plan how to transform your garment before beginning your final project.
This class focuses on designing and preparing the details you’ll apply to your garment during Class Two.
Bring 1–2 garments you’d like to transform. Oversized thrifted pieces, vintage finds, or clothing from your own closet work wonderfully! Using the techniques from Class One, you’ll customize your garment with creative details such as ruffles, gathers, elastic shaping, fabric appliqué, and other personalized touches using fabric scraps, trims, or embellishments. Our instructors will guide you through choosing the best upgrades for your garment and help you create a finished piece that reflects your personal style.
Weekends | 1PM-3PM (both sessions)
Students must bring 2–3 simple garments you’d like to transform. Oversized button-down shirts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, dresses, skirts, and thrift-store finds work especially well.
Feel free to bring fabric scraps, lace, ribbon, trims, or other embellishments you’d like to incorporate. Students are also welcome to use our studio fabric scraps.
Previous sewing machine experience and knowledge is required or students must take our Machine Sewing Basics Class.
